Philosophy of learning at Delany College
Catholic schools acknowledge the vital role of parents as the first and foremost educators of their children, and exist alongside them to educate children in a Christian environment.
These schools have been established to create a community of faith which fosters the development of the personal abilities of the student, for the service of Christ. Combined with the provision of a good education, involvement in the Church’s pastoral ministry is actively encouraged.
Delany College is a caring community consisting of students, ex-students, teaching and support staff, parents, the Catholic Education Office, the Bishop and local clergy. Our philosophy aims to embody the hopes and ideals of all these members of the College community.
Our College offers students a caring and secure environment to seek truth and understanding. Our motto, Love, Serve, Hope, reflects the College's commitment to Bishop Delany's vision, to grow from the beauty and truth of the Gospel.
The three words, which comprise the College motto, are taken from St Paul's letter to the Romans. These words were used by St Paul at various times, he used them to urge early Christians to persevere in their new faith in spite of problems. These three words sum up the basic elements of our Christian faith:
In choosing the motto, the Enabling Committee who were responsible for the development of the structures and the identifying features of the College, searched out what were the essential values of Christian community.
In deciding this, the committee reflected on what were the outstanding values of the present community and what identified it as a Patrician family. The words of 'Love', 'Serve' and 'Hope' were unanimous descriptions of what was so special about the community. These words became the foundation blocks on which the Delany College community could continue to build on the traditions of the past, thus engendering a spirit of hope and trust in an exciting and challenging future.
The Delany school song
Love, Serve and Hope (written by Ryan McBride)
Love, serve and hope, with truth our school is crowned. Praise God the Father, Lord of all, in Christ God’s word is found. From Erin’s shores, Saint Patrick pray for us. God’s Holy Spirit gives us life. Delany standing proud!
From many shores with gifts from cultured lands, we serve Delany proud and strong with open hearts and hands. Bound by the love Christ bears within his Church. United as one voice we sing: Delany standing proud!
