The young debating team from St Patrick’s Primary Parramatta took the honours in the final round of the Delany Cup.
The topic was ‘Students should be paid to attend school’. St Patrick’s argued the negative position while the opposing team from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary Greystanes mounted the argument for the affirmative.
Delany’s Assistant Principal, Mr Anthony Blomfield, said staff and students have been working hard over the past five weeks to coordinate the Delany Cup Debating Competition. Each year we invite Year 5 students from our local Catholic school community to gain the very valuable experience of planning an argument and debating against another team. The standard of debates, and the talent on show, is inspiring
This week teams from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary Greystanes and St Patrick’s Primary Parramatta met in the final of the competition. The topic for this debate was ‘That students should be paid to attend school’
Although Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary mounted a persuasive case for the affirmative, it was the team from St Patrick’s, who took the negative argument, won this debate.
Delany College plays an important part in our local schools’ community, and this annual event is just one example. Thanks to Mr Thillainathan who accepted the responsibility for organising this competition. He also mustered a team of capable and willing students to assist by setting up spaces for the debates, welcoming teams and adjudicating.

Year 12 recently gathered for their final Formation Day at the Mary MacKillop Spirituality Centre, a special occasion centred on the theme "Mary, Undoer of Knots." ποΈ Throughout the day, students were invited to reflect on the importance of faith, interconnectedness and the relationships that shape their lives. β¨ Stage 5 Formation Day β¨ Recently, our Stage 5 students participated in Formation Day. A valuable opportunity to pause, reflect and deepen their connection with God, Jesus and one another.
