The young debating team from St Patrick’s Primary Parramatta took the honours in the final round of the Delany Cup.
The topic was ‘Students should be paid to attend school’. St Patrick’s argued the negative position while the opposing team from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary Greystanes mounted the argument for the affirmative.
Delany’s Assistant Principal, Mr Anthony Blomfield, said staff and students have been working hard over the past five weeks to coordinate the Delany Cup Debating Competition. Each year we invite Year 5 students from our local Catholic school community to gain the very valuable experience of planning an argument and debating against another team. The standard of debates, and the talent on show, is inspiring
This week teams from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary Greystanes and St Patrick’s Primary Parramatta met in the final of the competition. The topic for this debate was ‘That students should be paid to attend school’
Although Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary mounted a persuasive case for the affirmative, it was the team from St Patrick’s, who took the negative argument, won this debate.
Delany College plays an important part in our local schools’ community, and this annual event is just one example. Thanks to Mr Thillainathan who accepted the responsibility for organising this competition. He also mustered a team of capable and willing students to assist by setting up spaces for the debates, welcoming teams and adjudicating.

Over the past six months, two of our Year 11 students have taken part in the Max Potential program, using their voices, passion and leadership to create positive change in our community. 🌟 ✨ Paige’s project, See the Signs, promoted respectful relationships and raised awareness of the signs of coercive control. 👟 Kuae’s project, Walk in Their Shoes, raised awareness of homelessness and advocated for people experiencing homelessness. We are incredibly proud of Paige and Kuae for their compassion, courage and commitment to making a difference. Through prayer, reflection and shared activities, they strengthened their connection with God, built meaningful relationships with their teachers and peers, and considered how they can continue to grow in faith and community. 🙏💛 Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a special and memorable experience for our Year 11 students. ✨

Our Stage 6 Music students had the wonderful opportunity to experience Disney’s The Lion King live at the Capitol Theatre. 🦁🎭🎶 It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to see professional musicians and performers at work and to experience first hand how music, movement, staging and storytelling come together in a world class theatrical production. Experiences like this bring classroom learning to life and give our young musicians a chance to see where their own creativity, musicianship and performance skills can take them.
