The young debating team from St Patrick’s Primary Parramatta took the honours in the final round of the Delany Cup.
The topic was ‘Students should be paid to attend school’. St Patrick’s argued the negative position while the opposing team from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary Greystanes mounted the argument for the affirmative.
Delany’s Assistant Principal, Mr Anthony Blomfield, said staff and students have been working hard over the past five weeks to coordinate the Delany Cup Debating Competition. Each year we invite Year 5 students from our local Catholic school community to gain the very valuable experience of planning an argument and debating against another team. The standard of debates, and the talent on show, is inspiring
This week teams from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary Greystanes and St Patrick’s Primary Parramatta met in the final of the competition. The topic for this debate was ‘That students should be paid to attend school’
Although Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary mounted a persuasive case for the affirmative, it was the team from St Patrick’s, who took the negative argument, won this debate.
Delany College plays an important part in our local schools’ community, and this annual event is just one example. Thanks to Mr Thillainathan who accepted the responsibility for organising this competition. He also mustered a team of capable and willing students to assist by setting up spaces for the debates, welcoming teams and adjudicating.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” 🙏✝️ Today the Delany community commemorated Holy week, which celebrates the life and death of our Saviour Jesus Christ ❤️ Our amazing students retold the Passion narrative through the Stations of the Cross. They showed how Jesus was able to absorb all the violence and transform it and return it as love and forgiveness. This Easter Sunday as we celebrate the risen Lord may we recognise the amazing grace gifted to us by our God🙏

Big shout out to Stella Fitzpatrick, Alex Zeitoun and Brandon Daniels who represented Delany College in the PDSSSC Parramatta Zone Swimming Carnival at Sydney Olympic Swimming Centre 🏊♂️🏊♀️ Both Stella Fitzpatrick and Alex Zeitoun swam well and achieved personal bests in their respective swimming events. Brandon Daniels competed in four events and was awarded a bronze medal in the Under 12s 50 metres butterfly final and a silver medal in the 100 meters freestyle 🏅🏅🏅 Congratulations on a great effort!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

A fun day out was has at the girls basketball gala day on Friday ⛹🏽♀️🏀 Although we weren't able to secure a win, the girls worked impressively as a team to get as many points as possible onto the scoreboard. These students represented our school with Pride, Passion and Persistence and displayed excellent leadership qualities. We are extremely proud of each of them 😁🤩

The 2024 Delany College Swimming Carnival🏊🏽♀️🏊🏽♂️ was a fantastic day! The swimming, cheering, fancy dress and House spirit was outstanding.
