Hundreds of students, staff and families from schools throughout the Diocese of Parramatta and local community leaders came together at St Patrick’s Cathedral Parramatta to recognise 31 outstanding students last week.

A team of 27 students from Delany College attended the PDSSSC Athletics Carnival last Monday. This group of athletes competed in a number of track and field events at the Athletics Centre, Sydney Olympic Park. A special mention goes to our Year 7 student, Philip Kabia, who won Gold in the 12 year old boys 200 metres race 🥇🏃🏾‍♂️ AND Silver in the 100 metres sprint🥈 ⭐WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT⭐

From 29 July to 4 August Daniel Thwaites and his team (Ryde Hawks) played in the ‘2023 Senior Baseball League World Series’, held in Easley, South Carolina. Representing Australia, their first game was successful beating Latina America 3-1. Winning the next couple of games secured their place in the championship game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be and the team went down by 4 runs to Mexico. The loss eliminated Ryde Hawks from contention at the World Series event. The team successfully placed third, earning their place in the top three in an International World Series. We are extremely proud of Daniel on this achievement.

Our Junior, Intermediate and Senior Girls teams competed at the PDSSSC Netball Gala Day at Jamison Park, Penrith earlier this term 🏐 Although we didn't secure many wins, the day was filled with fun and laughter, provided an opportunity to meet new people and was a great experience learning a new sport, all while representing the College ✨😄

World Youth Day Update #2 Lourdes Our WYD pilgrims arrived in the foothills of the Pyrenees and the small town of Lourdes. It was in this small town that Our Lady first appeared to St Bernadette in 1858. The pilgrims walked the Stations of the Cross before descending into Lourdes and celebrated their daily Mass at the Grotto – the site where young Bernadette experienced visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They later joined the Blessed Sacrament Procession and Blessing of the Sick before a final evening candlelight procession.

World Youth Day Update #1 During the last few days, our Delany WYD pilgrims visited many churches including Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. They immersed themselves in the stories of St Vincent de Paul and Saint Catherine Laboure, visiting the daughters of charity in the Rue du Bac. This is the site where Our Lady appeared to Catherine Laboure in 1830, with the first miraculous medal being struck in 1832. As they continue to explore this famous city, they will be soon going by train to Lourdes. Please keep them in your prayers as their World Youth Day journey continues. #parrawyd23

On Monday 5 June, Year 7 and 8 took part in their Reflection Day at St Joseph Conference Centre at Baulkham Hills. The theme for the day was 'Heroes' 🦸 Through the exploration of different heroes, what it means to be a hero and what it is that makes an individual a hero, students were able to reflect a little more deeply about themselves. Overall, a great day was had by all those involved.

The Athletics carnival was a exhilarating event and a testament to the spirit of healthy competition among the students.
